On Monday, April 4, Taiwan signed an agreement with the United States that will give Taiwanese travelers to the US the ability to enroll in the Global Entry program.
Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. Members enter the United States through automatic kiosks at select airports.
In order for a traveler to enroll, they must be pre-approved through a background check and in-person interview. The CBP’s goal of the program is to expedite the process of entering the US for international travelers.
What are the benefits of Global Entry?:
- No processing lines
- No paperwork
- Access to expedited entry benefits in other countries
- Available at major U.S. airports
- Reduced wait times
- TSA Pre✓® Eligibility
Monday’s agreement will also give eligible US citizens the ability to use Taiwan’s similar E-gate program when internationally traveling to Taiwan. will now be able to use Taiwan’s corresponding E-gate program when traveling to Taiwan.
As a proponent for international travel, I am excited that this agreement has taken place between the US and Taiwan. Since 2012, when Taiwan entered into the US Visa Waiver Program, there has already been an increase in travel between the two countries.
I can only imagine travel between the two countries will continue to grow in result of this!
